Argentina has a deep-set belief in the supernatural, so it is of no surprise that they still hold such deep superstitions.
It is still a commonly held belief in many rural (and some not-so-rural) parts of the country that the seventh son of a family of just boys will be cursed to be a Lobizon—a sort of werewolf. These boys are often baptized specially by the president of Argentina, as well as given the name ‘Benito’ so as to protect them from turning into a Lobizon.
It is thought that the Lobizon either becomes an Aguara-guazu; the maned wolf, or, the sightings of maned wolves are what people who claim to see a Lobizon are seeing. The maned wolf is not truly a wolf; looking more like an extremely stretched-out fox-like creature; red fur with long, spindly black-dipped legs that don’t seem to fit their lithe bodies, with long necks and snouts, the maned wolf is creepy enough on it’s own and it makes sense why someone may think they were a supernatural creature in and of themselves.
