When Francisco Pizarro invaded and sought the riches of the Inca, the Inca fled to Paititi, and took with it, their gold. A document found at the Vatican suggests that this lost city may, in fact, be real. The Incan empire was vast, spreading from Quito to Santiago, the capital was Cusco. Machu Picchu was thought to be a Royal Retreat with great spiritual significance.
To follow the Incan road, you will need more than just good health, luck, and stamina– you’ll also need coca leaves. The original coca-cola contained this local cure for altitude sickness, but hopefully you won’t need to pass a drug screen after your venture looking for Paititi– Coca leaves are used to make cocaine. Yikes!
To get to this lost city you will travel upon some of the most dangerous roads in the world, following them until they either end or are too trecherous to pass, and then you will continue yet further. You will continue well beyond the road’s end. When you reach Pumacocha you will find preserved potatoes in the icy waters of the lake, said to have been thrown there by the Inca as they fled, needing to lighten their load. You’ll pass Tamboconcha ruins long forgotten to time and history.
At Pusharo, you’ll see petroglyphs that seem to direct you along your journey, supposedly showing a map to Paititi.
Perilous though this trek is, it is quite rewarding. There are many lost ruins along the Incan stone road. And of course, all roads lead somewhere.
