In remote villages deep in the Amazon, home to the Ese-Eja people along a tributary called the Madre de Dios River, there is a legend of a small three to four foot tall gremlin-like creature called the Chullachaqui. Often said to be preceded by a whistling sound, this troublesome creature has long arms, pointy ears, and only three toes on each foot. The Chullachaqui is similar to other cryptids, yet still seems to stand apart on its own.
Not rumored to be quite as persnickety or cranky as some other creatures, and not quite as demanding as others, it’s still got a bit of a negative reputation for being troublesome if not entirely aggressive. The sounds it makes and the prints it leaves may be explained by feral pig activity in the area, though this is purely conjecture.
